JOB DESCRIPTION:

Join Faircape Health as an Activity Assistant in the Southern Suburbs

Are you passionate about providing high-quality care and looking for a rewarding position with a leading retirement group? Faircape Health, renowned for its world-class healthcare facilities across six luxury retirement villages, is seeking dedicated Activity Assistants for day shifts at our Southern Suburbs locations.

As an Activity Assistant, you will lead both group and individual activities under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist. This role is perfect for those who are enthusiastic about fostering engaging environments for residents while also growing professionally through our comprehensive staff development programs, which include both internal and external training opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Intervention

  • Execute group and individual activities tailored to residents, following a weekly program directed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Encourage resident participation by inviting them to join activities.
  • Engage with residents to understand their hobbies, interests, and personal history.

Indirect Intervention

  • Maintain up-to-date records on activity attendance and note any changes in residents’ conditions, tracking improvements or declines.
  • Participate in and contribute to Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.

Supportive Duties

  • Welcome new residents and perform onboarding tasks according to standard procedures.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Manage activity supplies and notify the Occupational Therapist when replenishment is needed.
  • Prepare weekly reports and conduct activity-related research.
  • Communicate with supervisors about urgent matters that require attention.
  • Monitor and manage wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
  • Handle emails professionally and promptly.
  • Effective Planning and Implementing Activities.
  • Following Safety Protocols.

Training

  • Participate in carer training sessions to enhance resident care.

Job Requirements for the Position.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Matric Certificate: Preferred but not mandatory
  • Care Worker Training: Beneficial but not required
  • Dementia Training: Advantageous but not required
  • Additional Training: Post-matric qualifications in fields such as coaching, teaching, or educare are advantageous
  • Social Sciences Background: Preferred for a holistic understanding of geriatric care

Experience:

  • Geriatric Experience: Highly valued

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficient in basic computer skills
  • Compassionate with a strong sense of empathy
  • Excellent listening and verbal communication skills
  • Enthusiastic with a positive outlook
  • Creative and reliable, with a strong sense of accountability
  • Deep understanding of the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of the elderly
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Strong observation and presentation skills
  • Skilled in planning leisure activities such as arts and crafts

  • Must have a clear criminal record

Working Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 8 AM to 5 PM
  • Two Saturdays per month: 8 AM to 11:30 AM
