Ntsiki Mazwai Issues Formal Apology Following Controversial Comments
Poet and activist Ntsiki Mazwai has publicly apologized for her recent remarks that ignited speculation among her audience. Although she refrained from naming individuals, many interpret her comments as directed towards Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie and media figure Unathi Nkayi, particularly in light of her criticism regarding the government-sponsored trip to Cuba.
In her apology, released on Wednesday, February 19, Mazwai recognized that her statements may have resulted in “unnecessary harm and confusion.” She acknowledged that her intention was to convey frustration, but she now understands that her remarks could have been misinterpreted or considered inappropriate.
“I also acknowledge the importance of being more considerate and responsible when addressing sensitive issues, particularly those involving public figures and significant industry processes,” Mazwai remarked.
This apology comes after several days of intense online discussions, with some individuals condemning her comments as reckless, while others defended her right to express her views.
